A wise man once
said, "if you don't change direction, you
will soon end up where you're going," such
a simple concept, but a powerful message! On September
24, 2008, over 1100 young professionals, established
entrepreneurs, rising scholars and leaders in
regional and national communities gathered to
donate towards a campaign that promises not only
to change our nation's direction but also to blaze
trails towards creating the American we once knew
and loved years ago. That campaign is the Obama
for America campaign.
Together with the help
of Obama enthusiasts, hosts, and volunteers, over
$25,000 was raised on the 24th of September at
The Final Countdown fund-raiser that took place
at The Park on Fourteenth. This number doesn't
even include online contributions, which totaled
about $8,000 prior to the event.
The night began with an introduction from EZ Street
from WKYS 93.9FM, which was followed by inspiring
words from Congresswoman Jacque Robinson from
Pasadena, California. We also heard from Congresswoman
Laura Richardson, who ensured us that the West
Coast was fired up about getting Obama elected
president. Councilman Ludwig Gaines of Alexandria,
Virginia and, Obama Surrogate, Jamaal Simons reinforced
the importance of turning Virginia into a Blue
State. We also heard encouraging words from Bonnie
Allen, one of Capitol Hill's Most Beautiful People,
and from Ski Johnson, local talent in the District.
