Detroit's Young and Powerful for Obama took place on Saturday, September 27,2008 at the Historic Woodward Restaurant in downtown Detroit. Over 100 Young professionals across Southeast, Michigan came out in support of Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden contributing thousands to the Campaign for Change.

A recap of the evening, the night was quite successful. Jonathan Quarles (former Executive Assistant to the Honorable Kwame M. Kilpatrick, Mayor of Detroit) opened the program and greeted the room full of Obama Supporters followed by a Welcome given by Demond Childers (Detroit Co-Chair) and opening remarks from a few Host Committee members: Brandon White, Marcus Whitmore, and Jennifer Brown.

Erycka K. Hunter (Detroit Co-Chair) gave overview of the Young and Powerful for Obama Initiative. Michigan House Representatives Bert Johnson (5th District) and Coleman A. Young, II (4th District) did not disappoint. The two "young and powerful" House Reps ignited the crowd with their words of inspiration and hope. Michael Blake, Obama for America, State Political Director passionately charged all those in attendance to "be seen, be heard, and be powerful!" He encouraged them to get involved with the campaign and at the very least ensure that their loved ones were registered to vote.

Next, Willie Burton, former NBA Star expressed his support for Barack Obama for President as well. DJ Raw played an uplifting and inspiring version of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come."

Special thanks to our Distinguished Host Committee and Jillian Seeman, Obama for America Campaign, Detroit, Michigan for helping us make this event successful.

With Vision,
