Greetings from the Seven Cities of Virginia, I am Maurice Hawkins and I will be serving as the Chair of the Hampton Roads Young and Powerful Committee.  Hampton Roads is area with a lot of significance to our nation.  “Hampton Roads is the name of both a body of water and the region of land areas which surround it in southeastern Virginia in the USA. Hampton Roads is notable for its year-round ice-free harbor, for United States Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, NASA, Marines, and Army facilities, shipyards, coal piers, and hundreds of miles of waterfront property and beaches, all of which contribute to the diversity and stability of the region's economy.” 

With an area with a rich American tradition and diversity, Hampton Roads welcomes the Young and Powerful to Southeastern corner of Virginia with Open Arms.  With five colleges and universities in Hampton Roads two of which are HBCU’s.  We believe this is fertile market to brand the Young and Powerful in another upwardly mobile area.  The plans for the Hampton Roads committee will be to forge partnerships with historical civic minded organizations to aid in executing the vision of the Young and Powerful in Hampton Roads. 

By partner with civic leagues, fraternities and sororities and churches we believe we will be able to attract members and form a powerful coalition of individuals who what to impact our nation in a positive manner.  The future goals in 2009 will included bringing together a team of young, upwardly mobile professionals who have a passion to be involved with the positive progression of our nation.  Also, we want to brand Young and Powerful in Hampton Roads as an entity that wants to cultivate young people to create positive change in our nation.
