Travel using the Metro Transit system is probably the best bet. It would be wise to avoid driving as much as possible. For more information visit METRO's Inauguration website.

Inauguration Parade and Ceremony

  1. Most if not all hotels in DC are sold out or are extremely high. We would suggest looking at hotels in the "metro area" (MD and/or VA). Try to find a hotel near the Metro, DC’s public transportation service. Attempting to drive a car at any point that weekend will be POINTLESS and will cause extreme frustration.

  2. The inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, President BARACK OBAMA, will occur on the West Steps of the U.S. Capitol Tuesday January 20, 2009 followed by the Inaugural Parade.

Tickets ARE NOT available for purchase, you will have to contact your local congressional office. Please believe that people will be "camping out" starting Sunday January 18th to find a good spot. Public seating is FREE and of course is not guaranteed. There will be jumbotrons (big screen televisions).

You can place your name on a list to possibly receive tickets by doing the following:

Call and put your name on the list to reserve tickets for the Inauguration Speech. Tickets are on a first come first serve basis and right now they are just taking your name and contact info and putting you on the list. The office will contact you in December to let you know if you have secured tickets.

Inauguration tickets are distributed by your Congressional leaders. Contact your Representative's office to make a ticket request.
